Went to a presentation on the chumby today

I did not quite know what to expect and part of my reason for going was also to visit the local hackerspace and meet people. I was impressed with the chumby. Here's a device that seems small and odd-looking but it has a hidden powerhouse behind it that streams internet apps down to the device. You can select from over 1500 apps and the chumby will cycle through them so you can keep an eye on various events, social groups, news, etc. and not be distracted by putting all this information on your computer. Plus, you can put the chumby places where you may not want a computer or may not have the space. This link will explain more about what is a chumby. Then we got to see what goes inside the chumby and also a new prototype board that runs Linux. The chumby also runs Linux and it was amazing to watch the touch-screen change to a command shell when a keyboard was plugged in. I'll be posting more about the prototype board as I start playing with it.
